Artistic credentials

After many years studying the collective arts, art history and art as culture (University of Exeter, England; and University of California, Santa Barbara) Avenda’s style draws on a polymath background in film, drama, photography and creative writing.

“I like to paint emotion rather than objects and inspiration comes mostly from light falling on the lines of faces and bodies, with the great flourishes of Modigliani, Schiele and Tamara de Lempicka never far from my thoughts. And because I am always up for a surprise I drizzle water and let gravity add what it will. Words too. I love words. I often add them, and their power is locked in even if I paint over the top before a work is finished”

... but that is just marketing speak ....

Why paint in France?

Who wouldn't choose to paint in sight of the sea, peeking out to the Atlantic from the largest estuary in Europe? Atelier Avenda is now at Talmont sur Gironde, one of the prettiest towns in France.

So while some of Avenda's works are on exhibition in UK galleries, and cards will be available at Premier Page in Monsegur, the best place to find all of the art is here online.
